The Tucson School of Folk Music is dedicated to the melding of the old way of teaching music, the oral tradition, while also including more modern approaches. The oral tradition is all about learning songs. A new songs will often provide the student with new chords, rhythms, and techniques to work toward, while reinforcing the techniques the student has already learned. Plus - SONGS ARE FUN. Students are more motivated, and therefore practice more and learn faster, when the subject material is fun. In addition to learning new songs, students will also learn the theory behind what their fingers are doing, and practice playing with others, improvising, ear training, and composing.
